Job Summary:
Zymo Research is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Integrated Omics team. This is an exciting opportunity to explore the impact of cutting-edge methods, technologies, and applications in the fields of molecular biology and nucleic acid analysis. Zymo's expertise in providing end-to-end solutions for microbiome research—from sample collection to in-depth bioinformatics analysis will serve as the foundation for the intern's work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and refine machine learning models to predict various outcomes from microbiomics sequencing data, focusing on gut health and antibiotic resistance.
- Implement and optimize bioinformatics pipelines, ensuring they are user-friendly for non-experts in the field.
- Collaborate with Software Development Interns to integrate data science models creating a seamless user experience.
- Conduct rigorous data analysis and processing to ensure the highest quality of input data for model training and validation.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in machine learning, bioinformatics, and microbiomics to apply cutting-edge methods to your work.
- Participate in the entire lifecycle of model development, from conception and design to implementing and testing.
- Assist in the preparation of datasets, including cleaning, normalization, and feature extraction.
- Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to translate complex bioinformatics workflows into simplified processes for the end-user.
- Document all stages of the model development process, including the algorithms used, data flow, and pipeline configuration.
- Engage in peer code reviews and contribute to the collective knowledge base by sharing insights and best practices.
Education and Experience:
- Have or working towards a BS or MS in Biology, Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field. Preferably a recent graduate or someone with junior or senior standing at an accredited university.
- Demonstrated understanding of machine learning techniques and their practical applications.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, techniques, and data sources.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python or R.
- Exposure to microbiomics data and an interest in gut health and antibiotic resistance research.
- Previous internship or project experience in data science or bioinformatics is a plus.

Compensation:
The estimated base compensation range for this position is $20/hour at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
